Let’s Make October The Pamper Yourself Month! {all natural hair and skin care}

Gloomy Monday to all of you. And yes, gloomy is a good thing in October if you ask me. Gloomy means that you can cuddle yourself up at home with a steaming cup of tea and enjoy a compelling read. And it's totally fashionable to meet your favorite girls for a comfy TV night and face masks instead of getting all dressed up and going out. So due to us becoming more homey and relaxing a bit after the social stressfull months of summer I decided to have a special October theme on HN: Pamper Yourself! I talk a lot about food and workouts and intuitive eating and body image, but I shamefully neglected body, hair and skin care, which is absolutely part of being healthy, so far. And I'd also like to talk a bit about relaxing, cutting back on stress-factors, setting priorities and fascinating stuff like that... but that will probably happen in November then. pamper yourself

So far I am educating myself about natural hair and skin care by reading tons of interesting blog posts, listening to amazing podcasts and scrolling through heaps of pictures on pinterest. I also created a new board on Pinterest where I collect some of the information.

Here are a few of the topics I would love to talk about – and for those who are interested in guest posting: contact me! I am quite busy with my master thesis and would love to have other bloggers take over from time to time and share their experiences.

Facial Steams

The No-Poo Movement

Oil Cleansing

DIY Face Masks

Essential Oils for Hair and Skin Care

Lighten Your Hair Naturally

Dry Brushing

More ideas what to include in the series? Have you made your own experiences with natural hair and skin care already? How do you like to pamper yourself?

  1. I’ve done quite a bit with natural beauty, I tried no poo but it just didn’t work for me but I have found a good organic shampoo and conditioner that I use. I cleanse with olive oil, tone with apple cider vinegar and moisturise with coconut oil. For extra pampering I love to scrub with a home made coffee grounds or sugar scrub and an epsom salt bath is always good! Looking forward to your posts on this!

    • I am on the No Poo “treatment” ;) for a few days now and so far it’s not bad but not great either. I will stick out for one more week and check back than. I read on many blogs that you go through a bad phase before your hair looks awesome again.

And it’s so exciting how many things you’ve tried! Never heard of the coffee-sugar scrub. Do you use it for the whole body?

  2. I’m all into at-home pampering and DIY natural beauty treatments! I’ll get back to your e-mail soon, but I just wanted to say that I tried the no-poo thing and it was an absolute nightmare for me. My hair got stuck in the bad phase, and refused to improve — and there’s seriously nothing worse than the feeling of greasy hair. Gah! Just no…

    • No hurry ;) . Somehow my hair doesn’t really look greasy, it just has a problem to “stay in shape”. I do have a horrible whirl and my pony never does what I want it to. Guess though no-poo might be something for me no-heat-treatment is definitely not.

  3. I too have just started experimenting with home made skin care, particularly body scrubs, moisturisers and face masks. I am keen to try the no-poo I just am yet to work up the courage!

  4. I love natural beauty products! I’ve tried the oil face cleansing method and it was really good for my sensitive and dry skin. Coffee scrubs are pretty awesome too, because you usually have some coffee grounds from drinking it in the morning, so you’re not spending anything. And it’s supposedly awesome for preventing cellulite, so you can use it all over the body. Just be warned, it’s super messy!:)

  5. How is that facial cleansing with the DIY masks going?

We have the stuff to try oil cleansing at home and my brother did it for a few weeks as a last ditch effort before going to the dermatologist.

I’ve tried the no poo method and while I think eventually it would work, I didn’t really have the time since I am seen in public every day and greasy hair is just a no-go for me. I do use baking soda though often as it really helps remove any residue build up.

    • The spirulina one? I had some break outs, but my aunt told me thats normal since spirulina “soaks” all the dirt out of your deeper skin layers and that it is cleansing. I stopped after 10 days and now my skin looks amazing and the break outs are gone. Currently I am getting into oil cleansing – but truth be told, my skin has always been clean and glowing. I am only a bit bothered by the enlarged pores around my nose.

My hair isn’t greasy at all. So far the only thing that bothers me is that it somehow doesn’t stay in form as it did with poo. I’ll try it probably for one more week before I do a recap.

  6. I have been shampoo and conditioner free for one year and I would never go back (unless something changed with my hair, I guess). My hair is by far the healthiest it has ever been and I never had a day where I didn’t want to be seen in public because of grease. I definitely had to try some different things to find what worked for me at first but now I use nothing at all, just warm water and a good scrub with my fingers every day. I could probably write something for you on the topic but I am not a blogger, although I’m considering it. Let me know if you think I can help. I am really enjoying your blog!

  7. These are some great tips! I need to get back into dry brushing now that the colder weather is coming.. my skin has been getting a lot dryer and I found dry brushing really helped with that! Great site, keep the great work! I just posted my Watermelon Detox Drink on my YouTube Channel if your interested in checking it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNwExCZwiwQ&feature=share&list=UUZB32syI0FFtThd6xkPTRrg
